Is Your Beauty Routine Working Against You?

After reading countless beauty blogs, you have finally nailed down a flawless beauty routine. You cleanse, exfoliate, tone and hydrate regularly; however, you still encounter acne, oily skin and blackheads frequently. Perhaps, as a result, you have convinced yourself that you were simply born with problem skin. Fortunately, it’s more likely that your beauty regime is to blame than your DNA. Consider these common mistakes to determine if your beauty routine is working against you:

Overdoing It

While caring for your skin is an important part of any beauty routine, overdoing it is a common problem. If you find that you are washing your face multiple times a day, this could be the cause of your problem skin. Ideally, your face should be washed no more than twice a day. After washing, follow up with a toner and light moisturizer. When it comes to exfoliating, limit the process to two or three times a week, at most. Exfoliating is tough on the skin and doing it too frequently can cause irritation, redness, breakouts or dry patches.

Using the Wrong Products

Cleansing, exfoliating, toning and hydrating are all excellent steps to include in your regime but this tedious process could be a waste of time if you are using the wrong products. If you have oily skin, be sure that all of your skin cleansing products are intended for use with oily skin. For dry or sensitive skin, consider a gentle cleanser to effectively cleanse dry or sensitive skin without harsh drying effects.

Lacking Consistency

Beauty routines must be completed regularly. To get the most out of your routine, you must use the correct products for your skin type consistently. Skipping days or sleeping in your makeup can alter the effectiveness of any products or routines.

By avoiding these common beauty routine pitfalls, you can be sure that your efforts will be rewarded with beautiful, healthy skin.
